Aloha from the beautiful and humid Kona, Hawaii. I have living in Hawaii for 10 days and I still cannot believe it. Overall, it has been a wonderful whirlwind of a week and a half. The first weekend we were welcomed in traditional Hawaiian fashion in a welcoming ceremony and luau at night. The luau was complete with hula dancers and flame throwing. The next day our Awaken DTS (Discipleship Training School) went to the beach for the day, which was awesome. There are about 70 students in our DTS and 20 staff members.
Overall, the transition has been very easy and smooth. The people I have met here are great and the community is vulnerable and hungry for Jesus. My six lovely roommates are from all over the world and are absolutely wonderful. They have helped me feel at home and at peace.
Last Monday classes officially started with our amazing staff members sharing their testimonies of how God has been moving in their lives. I enjoyed hearing about how God's faithfulness and love has been so unique in each of their lives. Their testimonies allowed me to look at my life and see where I am in my relationship with God. It reopened my eyes to God's never-ending and amazing love. I am continuing to be challenged here and cannot wait to see the ways that God will encounter me within the next 5 months.
I will be living here in Kona until mid-September, then will be living in another country for 3 months. By the end of this week I should know where and who I am going with on outreach for these second . TheI ask for prayers for our entire Awaken school. I pray that God encounters us in amazing ways and for direction and peace in outreach decisions. Thanks for all of the love and support! I love you all and will be writing another update soon!
